This project involved the re-construction of a semi-derelict mill into 50,000sqft of modern warehousing and production facilities for medical supplies by Smith & Nephew. The project was won in a D&B competition with Allen Building and retention of the listed facades was required by the planning authorities.
MJM proposed a detailed sequence of demolition and re-construction which maintained the stability of the building, with little or no temporary works or propping required. The construction involved several large contiguous bored pile retaining walls on a steeply sloping site and very careful detailing of new steelwork to ensure that the existing mill walls, some of which were in poor condition, were fully retained and supported.
