New Asda superstore with ground level parking below a suspended sales floor and service yard. Due to planning restrictions the building was designed with unique building geometry and specialised cladding including a full green roof, timber facades and curved glazing.
The store achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’ and was featured on BRE’s own website as a case study.
S278 Works – Asda, Sheffield
The S278 highway scheme, completed in late 2011, was designed to service the recently developed store on stilts which forms part of a wider ‘S5 scheme’ designed to link Meadowhall to the city centre.
The £4 million highway improvement scheme involved signalisation of two existing junctions on the A61 which improved access to the store as well as extensive highway improvements in the immediate vicinity. This included a new controlled crossing and alterations to existing access roads/roundabouts.
As well as MJMC Highways undertaking the S278 design, MJM were also commissioned by Asda to provide civil and structural design services for the store development itself.
